Redmond, WA – The City of Redmond is recruiting new volunteer members for the Arts and Culture Commission to begin their term in April 2019. The vacant positions are open to Redmond residents residing within city limits (98052 zip code) or working for a business located in the City of Redmond. Arts and Culture Commissioners meet on the second Thursday of every month and serve three-year terms.

In addition to monthly meetings, Commissioners participate on special committees and attend public meetings and events. They cultivate community engagement around Parks and Recreation Department projects and programs as well as occasionally attending City Council and other commission meetings. The Commission also interfaces with the broader community, so that it can represent community members’ interests to the City Council.

The Commission continues to enhance the quality of life in Redmond by advising staff and City Council on public programs that build community, celebrate diversity, and enhance the vitality and identity of Redmond through performing, visual, and participatory arts.

The current work program for the Commission includes advising staff and City Council on growing the arts in Redmond through the Artist-in-Residence program, Poet Laureate program, Moving Art Center programs, So Bazaar Night Market, the Arts Season grant program, and more. Also, the Commission will provide recommendations on some upcoming public art projects including several City and regional transportation projects in Redmond.

There is no deadline for applications, but interested citizens are encouraged to apply by February 8, 2019. The positions will remain open until filled.
