Redmond, WA – The City of Redmond Fire and Police Departments would
like to remind residents that it is unlawful to sell, possess, use or explode
fireworks within Redmond City limits (Redmond Municipal Code: 9.26.020). Residents
of Fire District 34 (Unincorporated King County) are allowed to use fireworks
that are approved by the State of Washington (RCW 70.77.136) and purchased
through legal fireworks stands. On the Fourth, fireworks are allowed to be
discharged in unincorporated King County from 9:00 a.m. to midnight.
To Prevent Wildfires, remember the three “B’s” of fireworks
safety.
- Be prepared and
have water nearby
- Be safe and let
only adults light fireworks
- Be responsible
and clean up fireworks debris
When to call 911:
- If there is a
firework-related injury
- A fire has
started
- You observe
someone using banned fireworks
- You have found
a suspicious device, such as a pipe with a fuse coming out of it— do not touch
it
How to dispose of old consumer fireworks:
- Use extreme
caution
- Unexploded
fireworks or fireworks that are damaged should be submerged in a container of
water
- Once fireworks
are completely saturated, double bag them in plastic to keep them wet, and then
dispose of them in the regular trash
If you hear fireworks but do not know where they are
coming from, please report to our 24/7 non-emergency line at 425-556-2500.
In addition to the safety tips listed above, the National Council on
Fireworks Safety urges families to promote and teach safety by using fireworks
responsibly. Set a good example for children, young adults, friends, and family
by having a designated igniter that knows each firework, how it performs and how
to safely light the firework. Make your backyard celebration a fantastic
show for the family and a teaching lesson for everyone present. Let this Fourth
of July celebration be the happiest and safest celebration yet.
