Port of Tacoma Commission to meet September 17
Port of Tacoma Commissioners on September 17 will consider authorizations related to software upgrades and a proclamation for National Hispanic Heritage Month. The meeting begins at 12 p.m. at The Fabulich Center, 3600 Port of Tacoma Road, room 104. Meetings are streamed live on the Port’s website and also archived for later viewing. Bring the whole family to the Port ’s free Touch-A-Truck event coming up Saturday, September 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Snap a photo in front of a 42-foot-tall straddle carrier, sit in the driver's seat of a forklift, honk the horn of an electric yard truck, and more! Sentinel tree planting at the Port
On Port of Tacoma property, just off State Route 509, there’s a newly planted stand of trees and shrubs. It includes pine, oak, and crabapple -- a dozen species in all. Joey Hulbert, a researcher at Washington State University’s Puyallup Research and Extension Center, calls them "our early warning system" against invasive pests. Read more ⇒

Port honored for financial reporting excellence
For the 37th consecutive year, the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) honored the Port of Tacoma for excellence in financial reporting for its Annual Comprehensive Financial Report through December 31, 2023. Last week they came face to face (literally) with a clutter of cross orb weaver spiders, confirming that we're in the middle of Pacific Northwest spider season.
