 TRANSPORTATION ADVOCACY
Port of Tacoma's Clean Trucks Initiative
In 2021, the Port of Tacoma updated its Northwest Ports Clean Air Strategy in partnership with The Northwest Seaport Alliance, setting the goal to eliminate marine cargo related greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Part of this strategy involves the replacement of diesel-powered drayage trucks with zero emission vehicles. Roughly 4,500 heavy duty Class 8 trucks call on facilities at the ports of Tacoma and Seattle and serve as the second largest source of GHG emissions in their scope of operations. This legislative session, the Port supports Governor Inslee’s proposed funding for a demonstration project of the technology. Learn more here ⇒

 TENANT SUCCESS STORIES
SAFE Boats International
Earlier this month, Port tenant SAFE Boats International received the hull of a Mark VI Patrol Boat at its facility at the Earley Business Center. This boat is the first of eight that SAFE Boats will be creating and outfitting under contract with the U.S. Navy for Ukraine. Two more boats will be arriving in March, with the hope to have all three finished by the end of the year.
SAFE Boats plan to complete this commission by increasing their workforce by up to 75 new positions, primarily at their Tacoma facility.
