Department of Ecology briefing on the Occidental Chemical site and the PorTac cleanup are on the Port commission agenda
Included on the agenda for Thursday's commission meeting is an update on the Occidental Chemical site by the Washington State Department of Ecology and a proclamation in honor of Asian Pacific Heritage Month. Commissioners will also consider a request for funding for Phases two and three of the Wapato Creek Habitat Site and Phase one of the PorTac cleanup. Read the full agenda ⇒

 Port of Tacoma selected for EPA Brownfields Grant
The Port of Tacoma has been selected to receive a $500,000 Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Brownfields Assessment Grant to assist in efforts to bring brownfields and other high-priority sites within the Tacoma Tideflats back into productive use. Grant funding will allow the Port to complete key Environmental Assessments, develop cleanup/reuse plans on five high-priority brownfields, and support community engagement efforts around these projects.  Elected officials tour Port of Tacoma's environmental sites
On April 28, the Port welcomed a group of 30 elected officials and staff for an environmental tour of the Port. The tour provided an overview of our environmental programs and highlighted initiatives and projects focused on salmon habitat restoration, remediation and cleanup, reducing air emissions and addressing stormwater pollutants.

 NWSA full import TEUs set Q1 record
Continued strong consumer demand and retail inventory restocking during the quarter helped push Q1 2022 full imports at the NWSA to an all-time high. A record 365,088 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of laden international imports moved through the gateway during the quarter. While fewer vessel calls in March led to a decline in full imports for the month, overall import demand remains strong.
Breakbulk cargo volumes in particular were extremely strong in Q1 2022, with volumes growing 44.1% for 105,870 metric tons. Read the press release ⇒
