Got bait on ice, flies
tied or lures ready? Whatever your preference, if you’re a trout fishing fiend,
you probably know fishing season starts Saturday, April 22.
And on Saturday, our
friends at Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) kick off their 2017 Trout Fishing Derby, which runs
through Oct. 31. The Fishing Derby is happening at lakes all across the state,
including in 11 state parks.
Catch one of 900 tagged
fish that are being stocked in more than 100 lakes, and you can win a fabulous
prize!
Turn your Fishing Derby
experience into an adventure! Visit one of the many Washington state parks near
a Fishing Derby lake. Read more about camping and fishing at a Washington
state park trout lakes in our Adventure Awaits blog.

Join us for the 6th Annual ShellFest at Penrose Point State Park to celebrate the state's shellfish heritage.
This year’s ShellFest will
begin at 11:30 a.m. with a blessing by the Puyallup Tribe of Indians, followed
by exhibits, guided beach walks at low tide, a shellfish lunch and live music
by the 133d Army National Guard Band and The Blue Grass Minstrels.
Taylor Shellfish
Farms will provide a shellfish lunch from noon to 3:30 p.m. Lunch is free with
a suggested donation of $7 per person or $20 per family to benefit the
Washington State Parks Foundation. Admission is free, but a Discover Pass or day pass is required for parking.

And in case you can’t
