Are you an avid boater with a passion for promoting a culture of clean, safe boating —or do you know someone who is? Washington
State Parks is looking for an individual to fill an open seat on the Boating Program
Advisory Council.
The council advises the State Parks’ Boating Program on policy, financial strategies, and other important issues that impact recreational boaters. The program administers Washington’s mandatory boating education law, provides
revenue and training to local law enforcement agencies for maritime law enforcement, promotes safe boating and provides grants for infrastructure to prevent recreational boating sewage from entering our waters.
The 15-member council comprises representatives from all aspects
of recreational boating. We are looking for an individual to represent manually
powered watercraft operators.
The council meets
four times a year at State Parks Headquarters in Tumwater. In 2017, the council
will meet on March 16, May 18, Sept. 21 and Nov. 16. Meetings last from two to six hours. The term of service is for three years.
Where possible, recommendations for appointment to the council
are based on a geographical distribution of one-third membership from eastern
Washington and two-thirds from western Washington. Currently, only one member
of the council represents eastern Washington.
Members of the
Council may be eligible for travel expense reimbursement.
Interested parties should complete an application and
provide a letter of interest and a resume by March 7. To request an
application, please contact Doni Thomas at 360-902-8832 or doni.thomas@parks.wa.gov.
