State Board of Education to Meet June 23-25 |
|
 |
The State Board of Education will meet in Pullman, WA, on June 23–25 for its regularly scheduled meeting.
On Tuesday, June 23, the Board will call the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. Members will spend the day engaged in Board evaluations and professional development. No action is expected, and the Board will recess at 5:00 p.m.
On Wednesday, June 24, the Board will convene at 8:30 a.m. and open public comment at 8:45 a.m. The Board will hold a work session on FutureReady, its initiative to update high school graduation requirements. The session will begin with an hour-long student fishbowl discussion featuring local middle and high school students. Insights from this discussion will help inform the Board's deliberations later in the day.
The Board will then review input from the most recent Task Force meeting, along with public comments. They will discuss and refine a conceptual recommendation for changes to the graduation requirement framework. This draft will be shared publicly for additional feedback ahead of the July Task Force meeting.
Following these presentations, the Board is expected to take action on several items, including:
-
Consider approval of a waiver of credit-based graduation requirements for Quincy School District (Quincy Innovation Academy)
-
Approval of the Board's Tribal Consultation Plan
-
Consider recognition of the Adventist Accrediting Association (AAA) as an accreditor of student living accommodations for private schools
- Vote on full and provisional approval of private schools for the 2026–27 school year
- Vote on certification of compliance for school districts and other local education agencies that meet the program of basic education for the 2026–27 school year
Following these actions, the Board will hold a working lunch to recognize an outgoing student Board member. The meeting is expected to adjourn at 2:00 p.m.
