Re: Learning Standards for Mathematics Financial Education, and Social Studies

Summary: This is a learning standards revision update. It includes the release of the Initial Adoption K-12 Learning Standards for Mathematics, Public Comment for K-12 Draft Learning Standards for Financial Education, and Educator Survey for the current K-12 Learning Standards for Social Studies. Surveys are available to provide input on these sets of learning standards until February 13, 2026. The bulletin provides links to all of the necessary documents for review.

Join the 5-Year Challenge to Cut Chronic Absenteeism in Half!

Our state is part of a nationwide effort to cut chronic absenteeism in half over 5 years. The challenge calls on education leaders to support students in attending 90% or more of their school days. Education leaders are encouraged to join the challenge to reduce chronic absence in Washington from 27% to 14% by 2029. When districts join this effort, they will be part of a statewide community of practice to share strategies and learn from peers, the district will be featured on OSPI’s website, and OSPI will work to highlight the district’s success. The data is clear that better attendance results in better academic outcomes as well as improved student well-being. By filling out this form, district leaders can pledge their district’s commitment to the 50% Challenge.

While districts can join the challenge at any time, please sign up by December 19 to be included in OSPI’s public launch of this initiative.
