The State Board of Education and the FutureReady Task Force have been hard at work throughout 2025 building a strong foundation of knowledge that will inform the the development of proposed changes to high school graduation requirements.
We're excited to share a few ways you can learn about the work we've undertaken in 2025 and get a preview of what's ahead in 2026!
During the webinar, members of the Board and FutureReady partners will share what they’ve learned over the past year from students, families, educators, and community organizations across Washington. The webinar will cover:
-
FutureReady's process for identifying the academic knowledge and real-world skills students need to succeed in today’s world.
- Where Washington’s current graduation framework falls short in meeting students’ needs.
-
The work ahead as the Board develops its proposal for the legislature’s 2027 session.
-
How the public can engage in the process and provide input.
Can't attend? No worries! All registrants will receive a recording of the webinar.

We are excited to publicly release the FutureReady 2025 Interim Report.
This report summarizes the work the Task Force and Board have accomplished during their first year of work. It talks about why we’re updating requirements, our process for determining gaps in current graduation requirements, and what the next steps are as the FutureReady initiative prepares to develop recommendations.
We extend our gratitude to all the individuals and organizations who have supported our work over the last year. We look forward to continuing this work in 2026 as we develop recommendations for a high school diploma that prepares all students for success after high school.

On November 21, 2025, the FutureReady Task Force held its sixth meeting virtually via Zoom. The goal of this meeting was to review several early conceptual “straw man” proposals for modifying graduation requirements and discuss the strengths and challenges of each proposal.
Feedback from this discussion will be used to modify proposals that will be discussed at future Task Force and State Board meetings.
The Task Force’s next meeting is scheduled for January 23, 2026. It will be a virtual meeting held over Zoom. A link will be posted on our Task Force meeting page when available.
