The Board voted to confirm Abby Wu, a senior at Pullman High School in the Pullman School District, as its newest student board member.
Abby is filling the position left vacant by previous student member, Alex Henriksson, who graduated a year early. She will serve the remainder of Alex's term, which expires at the end of June 2026. Board policy requires that such vacancies be filled by a student from the same grade level, with preference given to finalists from the original selection process.
You can learn more about Abby in a press release announcing her appointment.

The Board received a presentation from SBE staff on draft priorities for its 2026 legislative platform. Following the presentation, members provided feedback and direction on potential priorities for next legislative session. A final version of the platform will be considered for adoption at the Board’s October meeting.
The Board also approved two agency budget requests. The first, Transition to WaTech Small Agency IT Services, seeks funding to better support the agency's IT needs. The second, Sustaining Core Operations, requests additional funding to support core administrative needs and meet growing public records demands.

53 school districts and LEAs were certified by the Board as being in compliance with the minimum instructional program of basic education for the 2025–26 school year. Those schools join the 134 districts who were approved during the Board’s August meeting. The next round of certifications will be reviewed at the Board’s October 15-16 meeting.
Each year, the Board is responsible for certifying whether school districts and Local Education Agencies (LEAs) are in compliance with the minimum instructional program of basic education, as outlined in RCW 28A.150.220 and 28A.150.250.
