NOW AVAILABLE
2025-26 Minimum Basic Education Requirement Compliance Survey
|
|
The 2025-26 Minimum Basic Education Requirement Compliance Survey is now available. All districts and local education agencies in Washington State are required by law to complete the survey to confirm compliance with Washington’s Program of Basic Education requirements. Basic education requirements for State Tribal Compact Schools are addressed by their compact. Response to the survey ensures the State Board of Education has a complete picture of offerings across the state. The Board will review responses on a rolling basis. All responses must be received no later than September 15, 2025.
Please note the following deadlines for Basic Education submission and certification:
-
If you submit complete responses to the SBE on or before Wednesday, July 16, 2025 your school district could be certified as compliant with the provision of basic education for the 2024-25 school year at the Board's August 13-14 meeting.
-
If you submit your responses on or before Monday, September 15, 2025, your school district or LEA could be certified at the Board’s October 15-16 meeting.
-
Survey responses that indicate non-compliance with Basic Education requirements will delay the certification process.
Before completing the survey, we recommend reviewing the sample survey and the 2025-26 Basic Education Compliance Matrix to gather all necessary information. Once you have the required details, the survey should take approximately 50-60 minutes to complete. You can save your progress and return to it at any time before September 15, 2025.
Throughout the survey, you’ll find links to relevant statutes and rules associated with each requirement. The 2025-26 Basic Education Compliance Matrix also includes links to additional information.
At the end of the survey, you’ll have an opportunity to review your responses and make changes as needed. After submission, you will receive a confirmation email with a PDF attachment showing your responses. Any items shown in bold red font indicate potential issues that will need to be addressed.
The Board's Basic Education webpage will be regularly updated with the certification status of school districts following the August board meeting. Please note that we are unable to send individual status updates, so we encourage you to check the website regularly to stay informed.
To support districts in completing the survey, Board staff will host weekly Zoom office hours every other Wednesday in June and July from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. During these sessions, staff will be available to answer any questions related to Basic Education compliance or completing the survey.
If you have questions or concerns, please contact Gail Wootan, Director of System Health & Compliance, at gail.wootan@k12.wa.us.
Thank you for all the support you provide to students in Washington.
