May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and the week of May 4-10 focuses on Children’s Mental Health. Mental health is important for everyone, and includes our emotional, social, and psychological well-being. Schools play an important role in promoting the well-being of students through education, prevention, and early intervention. Schools can participate in Mental Health Awareness Month by increasing awareness of mental health issues, working to decrease stigma of mental health disorders, and providing services and supports to students, their families, and school staff.

Students come to school with experiences and perspectives that are shaped by their home lives. Social emotional learning standards can be integrated into any content with learning options that personalize lessons to student experiences. In this webinar you’ll get tips from Student Assistance Program and teacher staff who are using strategies to integrate mental health supports into classrooms. We’ll have resources to share that you can use and free Equity Clock Hours for participants.

Good news for folks who need to do a final review of course placements for rising 9th and 11th grade students based on state assessment scores (in alignment with WAC 180-51-220)! Your district assessment coordinators have access assessment scores now. Check in with your principal about how to receive those data sets.
Shout out to the assessment team here at OSPI who worked really hard to make sure folks have access to these scores in time to support with scheduling before the school year is over!
Barring any unexpected legislative action, summer Running Start will be available to eligible students (including rising juniors) with available FTE under the 1.40 limit and administered through last year’s “standard” summer Running Start process. As addressed in the 2024-25 Running Start FAQ and during the October webinar with State Board for Community & Technical Colleges (SBCTC), Seniors who meet all their graduation requirements by June can postpone their actual graduation in order to take up to 10 more college credits in summer Running Start, if they have available FTE. (See Running Start FAQ, October SBCTC Webinar) Schools may still allow these seniors to walk in graduation ceremonies.
Please note: Continued access to “after-exit” funding has not been approved and should not be assumed available. Read the most recent Dual Credit update (CORRECTED LINK) for more information.
