The Seamless Summer Option (SSO) is a fantastic program that combines the best features of the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), the School Breakfast Program (SBP), and the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). This streamlined approach is designed for public and private schools already participating in the NSLP, making it easier for them to provide meals during the summer.
Schools can choose to operate the SSO or the SFSP, depending on what works best for them. For more details, check out the Comparison of Programs to find the perfect fit for your school.

On April 3, the U.S. Department of Education issued a letter requesting states to certify compliance with the Department’s interpretation of federal civil rights guidelines, or risk losing federal funding.
In response to the Department’s request, the superintendent sent a letter affirming that Washington has already provided our assurances and met the requirements under Title VI.
At this time, LEAs do not have any action steps related to this directive. Further communication with the Department of Education on this matter will be coordinated by OSPI.
Read the Superintendent's full statement here.
Visit the OSPI News Center webpage for the most accurate and up-to-date information about federal actions and guidance. This page provides links to news releases, featured stories, special projects, and videos.
