On March 21, 2025, the FutureReady Task Force held its second meeting at Highline College in Des Moines, Washington. There were two main objectives for this meeting: develop a shared vision for the high school diploma by unpacking what “ready for success” means and build consensus around the ideal qualities of future graduation requirements to serve as a foundation for developing and evaluating policy recommendations.
Participants heard from a wide range of community members and experts, including:
-
SBE Staff, who shared insights from the FutureReady community engagement work and previous SBE efforts, while also highlighting related initiatives such as the Gates Foundation’s Education Roundtable and Innovation Lab High School.
-
Community Liaisons, who presented findings from listening sessions conducted by organizations such as the Black Education Strategy Roundtable, United Way of the Blue Mountains, The Foundation for Academic Endeavors, East African Community Services, The Zone, and Partnership for Action, Voice, and Empowerment.
-
Tribal Perspectives, as identified in the March newsletter from the Office of Native Education and through engagement efforts conducted by the SBE Tribal Liaison, outlined concerns and aspirations shared by Native communities.
-
Julie Garver, Director of Policy and Academic Affairs for the Council of Presidents, who provided insight into student readiness for postsecondary transitions from the perspective of Washington’s public universities.
The Task Force’s next meeting is scheduled for May 22, 2025. It will be a virtual meeting held over Zoom. A link will be posted on our task force meeting page when available.
During the meeting, some task force members were asked to record short segments talking about their connection to FutureReady and what they hope to see from the process. SBE staff have compiled those recordings into a video. Check it out by clicking the thumbnail or button below.
