On February 20, State Superintendent Chris Reykdal released a statement concerning a Federal Attempt to Prohibit Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Programs. The US Department of Education (ED) released a "Dear Colleague Letter" to assert school and district nondiscrimination policies and their intention to assess compliance with applicable laws. Superintendent Reykdal stated that these letters are not bound by law and cannot enforce new policies.
The official news release can be read here or on the OSPI News Center. A recorded statement is available on YouTube.
NEW Revisions Deadline: March 14
The OSSI Grants Revisions deadline has been extended to March 14 at 5:00 PM Pacific Time. This extension provides additional time for applicants who met the first deadline of 10/31/2024 to address feedback and make necessary updates.
Pending Revision Requests
If a revision request shows the original deadline of December 15, 2024, do not worry - the system will not enforce that date. Applicants have until March 14 at 5:00 PM PT to submit needed revisions.
For issues, contact EGMS.Support@k12.wa.us and cc Akiva.Erezim@k12.wa.us.

Peer Mentoring & Empowering Youth Voice
Benjamin Franklin once said, "Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn. "Mentoring is about more than just pairing people together. We all need mentors to help us think through major decisions and help us to the next stage in our lives. In this webinar we'll have Dr. Jean Rhodes, author of Older and Wiser: New Ideas for Youth Mentoring with us to share what she's learned in her mentoring research. She'll share practices that make a difference and moves you can use with peer support programs that strategically put supports in the hands of the students that are socially positioned to connect their friends through programs like Natural Helpers and Hope Squad. We'll have guests from Manson School District to talk about how the program has evolved with student voice as a driving force for its implementation and continued growth. Get free Equity Clock Hours.
