The State Board of Education (SBE) will meet on December 5 over Zoom. During the meeting the Board will receive a visit from Governor Inslee, consider approval of updated rules to private school accreditation, and vote to approve its 2024 education system health report.
Join us on Zoom or tune-in on TVW.
- Governor Inslee will join the Board to express his appreciation for the Board's work and discuss their shared commitment to creating an equitable education system that prepares every student for success in Washington’s economy and civic life. Governor Inslee has been a strong supporter of the Board's work and is responsible for appointing seven citizen members to the State Board of Education.
- The Board will consider approval of updated rules to private school accreditation. If approved as proposed, these rules would allow private schools to be exempt from Department of Children, Youth, and Family requirements if the school and its student living accommodations are accredited by a State Board-recognized accreditor. These changes were prompted by the signing of ESSB 5515 into law during the 2023 legislative session.
- The Board will vote to approve its 2024 System Health Report. Prior to the vote, the Board will receive a presentation with updates made to the report based on feedback and discussion by the Board at its October meeting. Every two years the Board is required by law to review the performance of the public education system and make recommendations for improvement to the state Legislature and Governor.
The public comment period is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
