Multilingual Learner Policies & Practices – Updated!
The updated 2024 version of the Multilingual Learner Policies & Practices Guide is now available on the TBIP webpage. The new version of this guidance has been organized to align with the ML Program Planning Template and the Title III Program Review Checklist so that districts can plan an effective program, find guidance to support their plans, and review the checklist to ensure they have all of the required evidence for review.
The full Policies & Practices Guide includes a clickable Table of Contents to find any information you need or you can link to individual chapters as needed from the TBIP webpage. Check out the new and improved Chapter 2 on Program Models and Services for guidance on how to ensure English language development and accessible content are integrated effectively in all program models.

Periodically, the state is required to review and revise the state’s learning standards, which define what students should know and be able to do at each grade level. Following a year-long process of working with teachers, school and district leaders, and community partners, drafts of revised standards in English language arts, math, and science are now available.
The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction hosted a webinar to provide an overview and timeline of the standards review project which will be made available on the Learning Standards Review webpage. Educators, students, families, and community members are encouraged to review the drafts in English language arts, math, and science, and provide their comments to OSPI through an online survey available from August 16 through September 27 (deadline extended!). We appreciate your partnership in supporting additional engagement and feedback to the revised learning standards. Please share this with educators and families in your school or district.

This September and October, OSPI is hosting a series of Listen & Learn sessions for staff, families and community partners at each of our 9 regional ESDs. During these events, participants will learn the who, what, why, when and how about the upcoming statewide transition to a universal High School and Beyond Plan platform beginning in Fall 2025, and have opportunities to provide feedback and ask questions.
Morning and early afternoon sessions are designed for staff and educational or community partners; the late afternoon/evening sessions are for students, families and community members. Registration is required for all participants, including students and families. Everyone can sign up for the session that best fits their role using this HSBP Listen & Learn Registration Link or the QR code on the flyer. Please share this flyer and information with your staff, students, families and community partners and encourage them to attend!
For those unable to make the in-person event, there are virtual session options available on Oct. 21 and Oct. 28. Again, participants can use the same HSBP Listen & Learn Registration Link or QR code on the flyer to sign up for one of the virtual Listen & Learn sessions to learn more and get their questions answered. We look forward to learning from everyone and using that feedback to inform our support for this upcoming statewide transition!
