Please invite your colleagues who work with HiCap student data to join us for this Office Hour. The HiCap bill from the last legislative session called for district-level student data to be disaggregated and available to the public. Kelsey Osborne, Senior Data Analyst at OSPI, will be on this virtual meeting to share the recently-posted November 2023 HiCap student data and answer questions from the fields.
Virtual Office Hour is an open meeting/forum for educators working with K–12 HiCap students to discuss issues and hear from colleagues in other districts. This is an opportunity for HiCap coordinators, teachers, and administrators to share ideas, and connect for tips and answers from others doing this work.

As announced earlier, EDS iGrants will no longer house the HiCap District Plan Form Package (FP) 217 and HiCap End of Year Report FP 250. In September 2023, District HiCap contacts received by email a survey Assurances Page to complete and return. When the survey is submitted, your HiCap apportionment for the 2023–24 school year begins. If you have not completed the survey, please email highlycapable@k12.wa.us with “Apportionment” as the subject line. We will reply to your email with the survey.

Universal Design for Learning: Transform Your Teaching
Training Details:
Training Description:
In this hybrid series, we will look at the conditions for shifting our educator mindsets to UDL, how we can prepare ourselves to create inclusive learning opportunities for all students in our class, and we will share tools to help us plan intentionally to “teach to the edges” using practical design approaches and UDL-aligned strategies. Participants will have the opportunity to choose to learn about one or more approaches to lesson planning (Plus 1, Troubleshooting, and/or Journey mapping). After self-selecting a preferred approach, we’ll try our hands at applying the approaches through the UDL guidelines, checkpoints, strategies, and reflection processes. We’ll close the series with a celebration and sharing of our work together.
LEGOs and Metaphorical Thinking
Training Details:
Training Description:
Metaphorical thinking, rich in emotions and imagery allows us to understand and explain complex and abstract concepts by relating them to familiar models. With metaphors, we build lateral thinking skills, see from new perspectives, and innovate creative solutions. This 3-hour in-person session uses creative play and activities designed to engage students in thoughtful discussions, design thinking, and make student thinking visible.
