You're invited to a listening session about the Board's next four years of work. Your voice will play an important role in shaping the future of education in our state. Engage with us in constructive dialogue and explore the strategic plan together.
Join us November 8 from 6-7:30 p.m. OR November 14 from 12-1:30 p.m.
During the session, let's consider the following discussion questions:
- Are there any parts of the plan that need further clarification or refinement?
- How can the Board improve community engagement and collaboration in the plan's implementation?
Please review the updated draft of the plan to see how far we are: DRAFT STRATEGIC PLAN. The Board plans to adopt the plan in June 2024. View the full timeline for adopting this plan.

The ability to manage money wisely, make informed financial decisions, and plan for the future is a critical life skill that can greatly impact our overall well-being--that's why we're thankful for our state's Financial Education Public Private Partnership (FEPPP - a small, but mighty agency)! Increasing opportunities for students to learn essential finance skills is one of the most common calls for action we get from students and the public at the Board. That's why the Board advocates along-side FEPPP to do just that.
Check out our interns, Star and Indy, as they test their personal finance knowledge with Executive Director of FEPPP, Tracy Godat: Test your personal finance knowledge. Learn more about upcoming FEPPP training and opportunities.
On October 11 and 12, the Washington State Board of Education came together in beautiful Yakima! The 16 members met to discuss school recognition, the Board’s legislative platform, and the strategic plan (outlining Board work moving forward through 2028) - among other topics.
It was the final in-person meeting for member and Eastern Washington representative, MJ Bolt. Chair Bill Kallappa and members honored her with memories and a native blanket ceremony as a tribute to her last eight years on the Board (photo: MJ with her new blanket and SBE's Instagram seal, Snorkels).
Find the agenda, supporting materials, and links to TVW’s video footage of the meeting on SBE’s meeting site. Get a high-level recap on SBE's blog.
