Welcome to the First OSSI Continuous Improvement Newsletter

2023-24 Theme Calendar and Monthly Resource Toolkits

Each month of the 2023-24 school year we will be focusing and highlighting a content theme that is aligned with supporting continuous school improvement (see below for the theme calendar). We will be featuring articles and resources aligned with the theme in our monthly newsletter and we will be providing monthly resource toolkits to supplement and support the monthly theme.

Cycle 2- 2023-24 Continuous School Improvement Schedule of Activities. This is a year-at-a-glance schedule for schools and districts on the events and deadlines for the 2023-24 school year.

August Resource Toolkit: Through the Lens of the WA-MTSS Framework

The August Resource Toolkit focuses on the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). MTSS is a framework for developing the application of evidence-based methods to realize successful outcomes for every student. This is directly tied to the mission of the Continuous Improvement (CI) Framework. The linked toolkit ties resources and learning within CI and MTSS for use at the school, district or ESD level through the lens of the CI Framework.

September Resource Toolkit: Elementary and Early Learning Core Content

The Elementary, Early Learning, and Federal Programs division is responsible for supporting educators who support our students through a variety of approaches to ensure equitable access to strong foundations that focus on rigorous learner-centered options in every community.

This month's toolkit will guide you through the legislation, resources, and news of Elementary and Early Learning Core Content.

October Resource Toolkit: Secondary Core Content

This month’s Resource Toolkit: Secondary Core Instruction will particularly emphasize the Elements & Themes of Continuous School Improvement through the:

Identification, Provision, and Growth of Equitable Supports Within Learning Communities through Family, Student, and Community Engagement

As well as,

Focus on Improving Core Instructional Practices through Evidence-Based Practices and Continuum of Supports

In particular, the focus will drive readers to look at systems and how they support student learning, structures, and improvement. Secondary education is one of the last and most vital steps for student maturation and post-secondary success in the K-12 system. Find the Secondary Core Content Resource Toolkit, here.

Cycle 2 - 2023-24 Continuous School Improvement Schedule of Activities

Fall 2023

OSSI Improvement Grant Application Deadline
The application deadline for all 2023–24 OSSI Continuous School Improvement Grants is Tuesday, October 31, 2023. After that date, funds designated for schools who have not submitted their full application will be reallocated to other grantees and no longer available. Please refer to the OSSI Grants Fact Sheet 2023-24 for more information.

Winter 2024
February 2, 2024 - Mid-Year Progress Monitoring Submission for Tier 3 Plus and Tier 3 Schools
Tier 3 and Tier 3 Plus schools upload their completed Mid-Year Progress Review (MYPR) into their school’s SharePoint folder.

LEA’s will work with Tier 2 schools to progress monitor and review School Improvement Plans as per ESSA and the LEA-Consolidated Accountability Plan (L-CAP) that was submitted to OSSI.

Spring 2024
March 2024 - Spring Outreaches- Dates TBD

An event hosted by the ESDs and required for schools identified for Tier 3 Plus, Tier 3, and Tier 2 supports. The event is tailored for building and district leadership as well as school and district personnel directly involved in continuous system and school improvement.

March 2024 - Cycle 3 2023 WSIF- More information to come.

June 28, 2024- Tier 3 and Tier 3 Plus End of Year Progress Monitoring Submission
Tier 3 and Tier 3 Plus schools upload their completed End of Year Progress Review (EOYR) into their school’s SharePoint folder.

LEA’s will work with Tier 2 schools to progress monitor and review School Improvement Plans as per ESSA and the LEA-Consolidated Accountability Plan (L-CAP) that was submitted to OSSI.

Grant Due Date Approaching

The application deadline for all 2023–24 OSSI Continuous School Improvement Grants is Tuesday, October 31, 2023.

EGMS Office Hours

If school/district leaders are having trouble with EGMS, please direct them to our EGMS office hours. Due to the high number of schools/districts needing one-to-one assistance, this is the best way for us to triage supports:

CEDARS Update

CEDARS currently has large volume of files that need to be processed and loaded. This is expected because of CEDARS being offline for an extended period. OSPI EDS Technical Support are actively monitoring this and ask that districts are patient as CEDARS works through this process.

These CEDARS processing times will impact records processing in to TIDE in that large volumes of records submitted to CEDARS translate into large volumes being processed into TIDE that may not complete until well into the afternoon over the next several business days. Once the initial wave of 23-24 CEDARS submissions begins to subside, new records will begin populating in the morning as has been the norm for several years.

We know that many departments use CEDARS for a variety of purposes. Please make sure that departments heads are kept in the loop as we work through CEDARS fixes.
