Remember that IAP stands for “indicator of academic progress.” The Open Doors Youth Reengagement Program exists to support students in making progress and it is imperative that progress indicators are always documented.
This document provides explanations and examples specific to the Open Doors “1418” Youth Reengagement Program’s indicators of academic progress (IAPs).

The Open Doors Summit is happening October 26-27 at the DoubleTree Seattle Southcenter, 16500 Southcenter Parkway, Seattle, WA.
The Summit centers Open Doors Youth Reengagement, especially Open Doors structures, practices, and findings from the recent Community Partnerships for Reengagement Initiative. There will be multiple sessions to attend and lots of opportunity to reflect on program implementation. Unlike a conference, where outside inspiration or outside strategies share the stage, the Open Doors Summit is 100% focused on understanding what Open Doors Youth Reengagement presently is, how it works, and what we may support it to become in the future.
Have you identified 2 program staff to attend the Open Doors Summit?Registration is limited to two (2) people per program location. Programs may identify two people to represent their program and attend.
The legislatively funded Open Doors Summer Pilot Project is underway. We had five (5) programs receive funding to offer summer sessions. Programs were selected based on their higher-than-average service of post-resident students:
|
|
1. ESD 101 Next Generation Zone Open Doors Youth Reengagement Program
2. ESD 113 Gravity Open Doors Youth Reengagement Program
3. ESD 105 Open Doors Youth Reengagement Program
4. Seattle Interagency School Orion and Columbia Center Open Doors Youth Reengagement Program
5. Coupeville School District Open Den Youth Reengagement Program
|
In the following months, additional Open Doors programs will be selected to participate. Programs will have roughly 5 months to prepare to offer their summer pilot programming to occur in Summer 2023-2024.
The funding rate used for Open Doors in 2023-24 is:
- Nonvocational Running Start rate = $9,555.02 per 1.0 AAFTE
- Vocational Running Start rate (colleges only > 100 level) = $10,463.80 per 1.0 AAFTE
The 2024-25 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) will not be available until December 2023. The WASFA (Washington Application for State Financial Aid) will also be delayed until the FAFSA opens. Applications usually open October 1. The exact date applications will open this year has not yet been announced. The good news is this delay is due to positive changes in the application process:
- The FAFSA form will be shorter and less complex.
- More students will be eligible for federal Pell Grants, and the average Pell award will be larger.
The Washington Student Achievement Council (WSAC) will offer training for your staff, and helpful resources and outreach materials so you can partner up and spread the word.
We will make sure to let you know as soon as that information is available. Until then, we recommend delaying any financial aid filing events held by your school or organization. WSAC will communicate suggestions on other ways to prepare students during the fall. Please stay tuned!
