Extensive learning loss and pressing mental health challenges introduce a daunting dilemma for families, communities, and schools throughout the Country. Adding to these challenges is the fact that differences involving culture and perspective can further complicate the effort to create supports that work for all students. Effective family-school partnerships have been determined to help address these types of challenges and improve student outcomes regardless of race or income (Lotunde & Clark-Louque, 2016; Sheridan & Wheeler, 2017).
Educators and families alike have high expectations for themselves and each other but both feel overwhelmed. Given this reality, district and school staff teams must start or vigorously continue the effort to establish culturally responsive family partnerships, if students are going to have any chance of succeeding in or outside of their school environment.

Overview of District Requirements when Students are Absent - This webinar will provide an overview of the truancy process, including state laws, OSPI rules and guidance. We will share best practice examples from local districts that support students to stay engaged in a supportive, strength-based manner.
Student involvement in community activities may support academic success. According to data collected in the 2021 Health Youth Survey, 64.3% of 8th grade students who reported having opportunities for involvement in community activities, such as participation in activity and service clubs and team sports, also reported (earning mostly A’s and B’s in the previous school year.) That figure was 28.6 percentage points higher than those students reporting no opportunity for involvement in community activities. The trend holds for 10th grade students and for school year 2018. Apple Health (Medicaid) offers free or low-cost health care coverage. Some school aged children may be enrolled in Apple Health. With back to school around the corner, we’re asking for your help to spread the word to ensure families renew their Apple Health on time to keep kids covered!
The best way clients can stay informed is by keeping their contact information up to date. This ensures they receive important notices about their coverage, including when it’s time to renew.
Clients should watch for their renewal notice and take timely action to keep their coverage active.
