Below you’ll find information about upcoming State Board of Education deadlines and processes:
If the Head of School has changed since you submitted the 2023 - 2024 Private School Approval Application, please submit a 2023 - 2024 Private School Change of Information Form (alchemer.com). Note that this form does not automatically update your information on the website or in EDS. The State Board processes information changes once a month. Thank you for your patience.
Please see How to Update Private School Information | SBE (wa.gov) for further instructions and answers to questions you might have about the process.
The Weapons in Schools Data must be provided to OSPI by Monday, July 31, 2023. OSPI provides information of reported incidents of weapons in private schools to the Washington State Legislature each year, as required by state and federal law.
For more information and instructions, please see: Special Message: Weapons Reporting (govdelivery.com).
For assistance with Weapons Reporting or to request a User Role to access the reporting form, please contact OSPI Customer Support.
Schools that were provisionally approved in either April or June should email missing application materials to the Private Schools Manager before August 1 in order to be considered for full approval at the August board meeting.
All application materials must be submitted by August 1, 2023.
To verify completion of your application, please check your school’s approval status. Updates to this list are posted weekly on our website.
If your school needs to temporarily close due to low or no enrollment, or if your new school has delayed opening, please notify the State Board of Education. When you are ready to reopen, you will use the Renewing Private School Application with your building code. If you need help finding your building code, instructions are available on our website.
Private schools that are permanently closing must complete a closure form. Please ensure that records from the closing private school are transferred to a reliable person or entity for storage and that students and parents/guardians understand how to request their records. If your school is a high school, your former students will need to be able to request copies of their transcript for many years into the future.
