Approval applications are due this Friday, April 28th. Although late applications will be reviewed and presented to the board for approval, note that per WAC 180-90-130:, at least 90 days before the beginning of the annual school term or period, the school “shall file with the state board of education a certificate of compliance as set forth in WAC 180-90-160.”
Thank you to each of the many schools that submitted an 2023 - 2024 Renewing Private School Application. The board will meet in June and will review and vote to approve all remaining approval applications.
Check our website for additional information about the approval process, including paperwork you may need to upload in addition to the 2023 - 2024 Staffing Report and the Certificate of Compliance. You can also preview new school and renewing school application samples.

Renewing private schools will log in to submit a separate 2023 - 2024 Renewing Private School Application for each campus or location using its unique building code as the password.
Please save your login information, which will give you access to all State Board of Education processes.
Note that your login credentials for EDS Access and OSPI-required reporting will be different.
If you are opening a new campus, OR if you currently operate a second campus that does not have its own building code, you will apply for approval for the additional campus using the 2023 - 2024 New Private School Application. No login is required. Your additional campus will be assigned a building code after approval.
Please do not use the New School Application for an existing approved school building / campus.
If your school needs to temporarily close due to low or no enrollment, or if your new school has delayed opening, please notify the State Board of Education. When you are ready to reopen, you will use the Renewing Private School Application with your building code. If you need help finding your building code, instructions are available on our website.
Private schools that are permanently closing must complete a closure form. Please ensure that records from the closing private school are transferred to a reliable person or entity for storage and that students and parents/guardians understand how to request their records.

You will be notified of your approval within two weeks of the meeting. Note that we do not email Certificates of Approval to schools. Instead, Certificates of Approval will be available for download on the private schools page.
