The State Board is proud to announce the 2023 recipient of the SBE award in the Superintendent's High School Art Show, "American Gothic" by Emily Morales. Emily goes to A.C. Davis High School, in Yakima School District. Emily's teacher is Carole Huls.
We're excited to present the award at the Art Show in Seattle on May 30. Beyond recognition, Emily will receive a $200 scholarship for this award. We look forward to sharing more about this artist in the coming weeks. You can see all of the Board's honorees since 2007 on SBE's page dedicated to the show.

Much of the Board's advocacy has been related to hands-on, engaging learning for each and every student. In the small town of Shelton, schools are making great strides in applying our important learning standards to real-world experiences.
Chelsea Jonas is a CTE - welding teacher at Shelton High School. She likes helping her students find meaningful, and often high-paying careers after school and ensuring they know all the math and terminology needed for that work. Learn more about her in the video interview linked below.
