The Approval Application window opens next month. For all State Board of Education processes, your head of school email address functions as the username, and your school code is the password.
If the Head of School has changed since you submitted your previous year’s Private School Approval Application, please submit a Private School Change of Information Form before February 17, 2023.

What is meant by “Head of School”?
From the FAQ page, #10:
The Head of School is the principal, president, superintendent, owner, or other school official who takes responsibility for accurately submitting and reporting to the State Board of Education. This is the person who signs the affidavit saying that the information on the approval application is accurate.
What else does the Head of School need to know?
Heads of School are also responsible for OSPI-related reporting, accessed through the EDS portal. More information about EDS Access is available on our website.
What if I missed the February 17 deadline to update school information?
When you begin your approval application, log in to your Renewing Private School Approval Application using your previous Head of School email address. You will have an opportunity to update school information in the application itself.
Hey. Where’s the Change of Information form?
The Private School Change of Information Form is available on the private school webpage.
The form will not be accessible during the Private School Approval Application window, March 1 through April 28, 2023. Instead, all school changes should be reported in the application itself.
Note that schools with name changes should log in to the Renewing Private School Application to indicate the new and previous names of the school.
More information about How to Update Private School Information is available on the website.
The online approval application for 2023 - 2024 school year approval is coming soon!
Application Opens Wednesday, March 1, 2023 – Due Date is Friday, April 28, 2023
More information about Private School Approval is available on our website.
Existing Approved Private Schools Opening a New Campus
If you are opening a new campus, you should apply for approval for the new campus as if it were a new school. The New Private School Application will be available March 1, 2023. Note that no login is required. Your new campus will be assigned a building code after approval.
Please do not use the New School Application for an existing approved school building / campus.
Renewing Private Schools
Renewing private schools will log in to submit a separate application for each campus or location using its unique building code as the password.
Username
- Regardless of who is completing the application, the Head of School email address is always the username. Use the email address submitted on the 2022 - 2023 approval application OR the current Head of School email address if your school information was updated before February 17, 2023.
Password
Instructions for looking up a lost building code are available on our website.
Please save your login information, which will give you access to all State Board of Education processes.
Note that your login credentials for EDS Access and OSPI-required reporting will be different.

If your school needs to temporarily close due to low or no enrollment, or if your new school has delayed opening, please notify the State Board of Education. When you are ready to reopen, you will use the Renewing Private School Application with your building code. If you need help finding your building code, instructions are available on our website.
Private schools that are permanently closing must complete a closure form. Please ensure that records from the closing private school are transferred to a reliable person or entity for storage and that students and parents/guardians understand how to request their records. If your school is a high school, your former students will need to be able to request copies of their transcript for many years into the future.
Please contact Nicole Mulhausen if you have other questions.
