Many districts have not yet reported the screener data from Fall 2022 to CEDARS and/or have errors resulting in 14,672 students on the PENR.
- Check your PENR and student rosters ASAP to make sure all eligible students are accurately reported.
- Please note that CEDARS must have updated and accurate information on ALL identified m/Els by end of the day on December 9th.
- This data pull will determine the testing kits and materials order for the WIDA ACCESS as well as Pre-ID labels.
- Please use this guide to help understand and clear common CEDARS errors.
WIDA ACCESS Refresher Training
OSPI has developed a refresher training for those WIDA ACCESS Online test administrators who completed WIDA ACCESS Online training for the 2022 testing window or the Screener training for the online assessment in fall 2022. The refresher training is not found in the WIDA Secure Portal. Contact your District Assessment Coordinator (DAC) for more information and for a link to the WIDA ACCESS Refresher Training Course. Please contact ELPAssessments@k12.wa.us with any questions.

WIDA ACCESS Contrasting Groups Study
OSPI will be conducting a Contrasting Groups Study this January to help evaluate the proficiency cut scores used on the WIDA ACCESS in Washington. This study will ask teachers to make their best-faith determination as to whether multilingual/English learners in their schools continue to meet our state’s definition of an English learner: that English language skills are or are not still a barrier to a student’s access to core instruction.
Those determinations are later matched to the student’s scores on the WIDA annual assessment to find the range of scores earned by students generally regarded by their teachers as proficient or not proficient. No changes are planned for the cut scores to be used on the 2023 WIDA assessment, but this research will inform decisions about proficiency and EL progress modeling.
Files with student lists will be provided to District Assessment Coordinators in WAMS by OSPI’s Assessment Analysts. Lists will be available beginning the first week of January and must be uploaded by the end of January (before the WIDA test window opens).
Please see the slides and recording from the December 1st Information Session for more information.
Empower Professional Learning Communities with WIDA Self-Paced Workshops
Did you know that using WIDA Self-Paced Workshops is an effective way to build a Professional Learning Community (PLC)? With topics like home languages, engaging newcomers, and mathematics, there are relevant learning opportunities for every team of educators. Here are some ideas to get your PLC started:
-
Create a virtual book club. The WIDA ELD Standards Framework: A Collaborative Approach workshop explores ways to use the 2020 Edition to support multilingual learners’ achievement and language development. It’s designed for educators to engage in the modules individually, then to meet to discuss and build knowledge together. Hear success stories from educators who have created a PLC book club using this workshop.
-
Use social media to connect with colleagues. Educators from across the WIDA Consortium are using Facebook Groups like the WIDA Educator Exchange to connect and collaborate with colleagues. Hear some tips from experienced social media users.
-
Leverage the resources included in the workshops. Several Self-Paced Workshops have ready-to-use plans, reflections, and templates and videos to lighten the load of planning a PLC.
-
Request time for learning. Use the Inform Your Admin letter outline and inform your administrator of all the benefits of engaging with these on-demand workshops.
Questions? Contact your OSPI Program Supervisor or WIDA Client Services at 1-866-276-7735 or help@wida.us.

The Zoom at Noon

When making changes to the Title III budget in EGMS, please provide explanations that are clear and explicit. For example, if you are moving funds into purchased services, please explain what is being purchased and for what purpose so that we can determine whether each item is allowable. This can be entered in the “Explanation of Changes” section which is found under the Budget Change section at the bottom of the overview tab for the budget amendment in EGMS. |
