The Board has received several public comments about a potential “vote on ethnic studies” over the past few days. This is not accurate. Please read the latest statement from SBE to find out what will actually be discussed at this week’s meeting.
Student Board member, Donalda Brantley, created a video for social media asking her peers what would make the state's required High School & Beyond Plan more meaningful. Watch the video on the Board's Facebook page (you don't need to have an account). We posted a few social media polls as well on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. So far, Instagram and Facebook audiences thought the High School & Beyond Plan should be its own class and that there should be a universal digital component for all students in all districts. Twitter audiences felt the HSBP should be mixed with the current advisory period students are often required to take. Engage with us on social media to respond!
Calling all student storytellers, passionate social media users, writers, and creatives! The Washington State Board of Education (SBE) seeks a Washington State high school junior or senior interested in getting hands-on experience on SBE’s Communications and Outreach team. In partnership with the Association of Washington Student Leaders (AWSL), SBE student communicators get the opportunity to work with state government professionals, community organizations, and state-wide peers. Two positions are funded for 2023 at $25.00 per hour (5 hours per week, flexible schedule, virtual). The internship begins January 3, 2023. Download the flyer.
To apply to become an SBE student communicator, please submit your resume and cover letter to stephanie.davidsmeyer@k12.wa.us by November 22. Please describe your experiences, passions, and how they align with this opportunity! Link to your social media platforms if you are comfortable.
