Vote to Name the SBE Seal
We asked elementary school students all over Washington to submit names for the official State Board of Education seal. We received close to 200 submissions! Many of them are thoughtful, funny, and creative - like our kids. Check out the gallery of coloring sheets submitted to us (not required for submission). Board members and staff narrowed it down to the top 14 options. Vote for your pick ASAP!
Voting ends November 1 at 5:00 p.m.
More about the seal: Adopted on behalf of the Board in summer 2022 with 100 percent donated funds, the State Board’s seal is an educational interactive symbol for SBE. The SBE seal has their own Instagram account (instagram.com/therealsbeseal) where they will document their journeys throughout Washington schools, attend Board meetings and report back, and share relatable resources that help educate the public on what the Board is and what the Board does.

The student (or class) that submitted the winning name choice gets:
- A pizza party for their class (courtesy of our Executive Director)
- A visit to a classroom of their choice from State Board delegates, and the seal of course (whenever timing is not disruptive)
- A feature of their classroom in the State Board's newsletter, and highlights across all official social media channels
- Bragging rights that they named the official SBE seal
Special thanks to the students at Lexington Elementary in Kelso for showing the seal around your classroom this fall. The photo above is courtesy of that visit.
Thank you to the Point Defiance Zoo Rocky Shores keepers, and seals Qilak and Saya for welcoming us in to your habitat and teaching us about science and careers caring for animals (photo below).
