What counts as Dual Credit?
In Washington state, the term “Dual Credit” broadly refers to all programs where students have the potential to earn high school and college credit for the same course. Dual Credit is credit awarded through one of the six dual credit programs. These include:
- Advanced Placement (AP)
- Cambridge International (CI)
- College in the High School (CiHS)
- Career and Technical Education (CTE) Dual Credit
- International Baccalaureate (IB)
- Running Start (RS)
What about ACE CREDITS? Are they considered Dual Credit?
No. In Washington, ACE CREDIT is not considered a dual credit program. Students may receive college credits at some institutions of higher education, but ACE CREDITS are not universally recognized nor often used to fulfill core program requirements. To learn more about the applicability of ACE CREDITS, students and programs should:
- Reach out to the college or university of interest
- Connect with the ACE CREDIT provider
