SBE held its first hybrid Board meeting in two years on May 11-12 in Chelan, and discussed student voting authority on the Board, institutional education, interim planning, private school approvals, graduation pathways research, and more. The Board celebrated the work of student member, McKenna Roberts (graduating senior at Okanogan High School in Okanogan). McKenna plans to attend Barnard College in New York City this fall. Board chair, Bill Kallappa presented McKenna with a traditional blanket ceremony as an honored send-off.

In our state, the State Board of Education is responsible for certifying that school districts are in compliance with the program requirements of Basic Education (WAC 180-16-195, WAC 180-16-200, and RCW 28A.150.220(7)) each year. Reimagining Access to Substance Use Services with and for Youth and Young Adults
HCA and DBHR announced a partnership with Do Big Good, a human-centered design consulting firm to work with young people, reimaging access and treatment for substance use disorder (SUD) services. They will facilitate co-design sessions with youth and young adults (YYA) and produce a report with recommendations from young people that will be incorporated into the behavioral health strategic plan.
