The Alternative Learning Department’s name has changed to Learning Options to better reflect the diverse programs the department serves.
Learning Options provides supports and publishes guidance for:
- Alternative Learning Experience,
- Online Learning,
- Mastery-based Learning,
- Open Doors Youth Reengagement (compliance support),
- Choice Transfer,
- Home-based Instruction, and
- Continuous Learning 2.0+
Learning Options also collaborates with other departments within OSPI to provide guidance and supports for the implementation of public education expectations in the context of these unique settings and delivery formats.
Alternative Learning Experiences are funded at the non-vocational Running Start rates.
- For the 2022-2023 school year, this rate will be $9,341.94 per annual average FTE (AAFTE).
OSPI has made changes to the 2021-22 ALE Year End Report which will be opening soon. Please review the information below in preparation for the reporting window.
What changed? OSPI has transitioned to Smartsheet as the data collection tool. The questions remain the same, but districts will submit data via a Smartsheet form instead of using the SAFS ALE application in EDS.
When will it open? The report will open for submissions in May. An official opening date will be communicated through this newsletter and on the ALE website.
Where can I find more information?
