ELP Assessment Update March 24, 2022
We are nearly at the end of our inaugural administration of our new annual ELP assessment, WIDA ACCESS. With two days left to go, we have 91 percent of our online testers finished with testing. Over 109,000 students have completed testing and another 4,000 have at least one domain complete. OSPI is hearing success stories from districts about kindergarten testing this spring. We are grateful for your hard work and dedication and impressed with all the obstacles district and school staff have overcome to get through testing this year. Thank you!
The online testing platform will not be available after Friday, March 25.
Data validation is the district process by which errors in data are identified and corrected in the WIDA AMS system. Washington will have a pre-reporting data validation window from April 27 through May 8. During this time, districts can correct data prior to the release of results in WIDA AMS (around May 24) and paper ISRs (around June 14). District-level users in WIDA AMS will have “Corrections – Primary Window” permissions enabled to complete data validation during this window. For individuals without district level accounts to complete data validation work, the DAC must assign the permission on their account in WIDA AMS.
All edits made during the April 27 to May 8 window will be reflected in WIDA AMS results and Paper ISRs. Please note that DRC’s Helpdesk will only be available to support data validation through Friday, May 6. There is no OSPI or DRC support for data validation on May 7 and 8, but the window will remain open if districts need this time to complete data validation.
The second data validation window will be June 14 to 28. This is the Post-Reporting Data Validation Window. Data that is corrected during this window will not be reflected in paper ISRs, but the data will be reflected in WIDA-AMS for the final score file.
For more information about Data Validation, the Data Validation Webinar and the Data Validation Supplement are both available on the WIDA Secure Portal. OSPI will also be hosting a live Zoom session to address your questions and offer information on the data validation process on April 18 at noon (link to Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84456758080)
All WIDA secure materials must be returned to DRC by April 5. Any materials that are not picked up by UPS on or before April 5 will not be included in the May 24 release of test results. They will be included in a release of final scores later in the summer (typically July or August).

The Returning ACCESS Materials to DRC document found on the WIDA Secure Portal provides information on how to return documents to DRC.
Two weeks after the Return Deadline, on April 19, districts will receive an email to check the Return Material Receipt Report under the Materials Menu in WIDA AMS. This will breakdown by school location any outstanding or missing materials.
For quality assurance purposes DRC requires returned materials to be checked twice when they enter the facility. If there are materials that appear as missing on the report, please search the school or district for the materials. If found, you can request return labels from DRC. If not found, you can complete the Accountability Form to note the discrepancy.
OSPI has created a survey to hear about your experiences during this first year of WIDA ACCESS testing. The survey will close around April 10 or so. Please set aside 20 minutes and settle down with your favorite morning beverage to give us some insight into your experiences and ideas to make the assessments, systems, and resources better as we move forward. You will be asked to identify the assessments you want to provide feedback on as well as the grade levels and there are spaces throughout for your comments.

Paper Screener Materials
If you have received paper screener materials from OSPI this year, please return the materials to OSPI at your earliest convenience. These materials include Test Administration Manuals, Recording Scripts, Test Administration Scripts, a USB with listening and speaking, Path A and Path B testing booklets and other materials. The only portion of the paper screener that would not be returned to OSPI is any used Student Response Booklets. Thank you for returning these materials promptly so that OSPI knows what additional materials we need to order for next year.
Kindergarten Screener Materials
The Kindergarten Screener materials that you used in your district for school year 2021-22 should be retained at the district and used again next year for screening. These do not need to be returned to WIDA, but must be stored as secure test materials. If you need additional Kindergarten screeners for next year’s testing, please email ELPAssessments@k12.wa.us with your specific request for materials. Specifically, identify how many of the following you need
- TA Testing Materials (e.g., story book, image cards, etc.)
- Consumables (e.g., Scoring sheets and Student Response Booklets)
- Full kits (e.g., all TA testing materials and packs of 30 for all consumables)
Orders will be submitted the first week of each month through June. Please get your requests in sooner rather than later.
OSPI will be taking a break from our weekly WIDA Q&A sessions. Our next Lunch with Leslie will focus on Data Validation on April 18 followed by one on May 23 focused on Results and Score Reports. We will start back up sometime in May with guidance around screening, but those dates are not yet determined. Looking forward to seeing you all then.
