The COVID-19 pandemic challenged schools to explore new ways of administering the WaKIDS. OSPI is considering rulemaking to capture the lessons learned and expand the ways through which the assessment portion of WaKIDS can be administered in ALE, specifically allowing for the use of synchronous digital instructional contact in addition to in-person and on-site observations of students during the WaKIDS assessment window.
More information, including the formal rulemaking proposal will be added to the OSPI Rulemaking website soon. If OSPI continues to pursue this rule change, proposed language will be available in the coming months. Until any rule making is final, the current language for implementing Full-day Kindergarten in ALE settings continues to apply. See WAC 392-550-035 for more details.

Does your school/program have existing student art or photos that reflects our Alternative Learning Vision Statement:
To foster innovative, personalized, and flexible learning opportunities in public education.
Our department is seeking to update some available wall space at OSPI with art/images that reflect our vision and programs we serve. We would love to see original student art or photography in this meeting space. Art should illustrate the Alternative Learning vision, and be available for donation or long-term loan.
There is no need to create new products as this time. We will select one or more pieces for display, and will follow up accepted submissions with a release request.
Please contact us at ALDinfo@k12.wa.us with art to share!
