The Paraeducator Board has removed the requirement that paraeducators must earn the general certificate within three years of completing the Fundamental Course of Study (WAC). Districts will continue providing training to their paraeducators as funded by the Legislature. For the 2021-22 school year, districts must provide 14 hours of training on the general certificate to all paraeducators that have completed the FCS.

Through ESSB 5044, PESB is leading the review and revision of Washington’s current educator standards and ensuring the alignment of those standards with cultural competency, diversity, equity, and inclusion (CCDEI) practices. The revised standards will apply to all educator roles and will be used in the preparation of educator candidates and in professional learning opportunities throughout an educator’s career.
PESB is currently convening a series of public and private listening sessions, as well as providing an online survey, to hear your feedback and insight on the first draft of the revised standards and training rubric. Read the announcement.
