A notice of intent is due by September 28 and school applications are due on November 1.
The ALD is excited to share that we will be facilitating two grant opportunities in support of ALE using ESSER III funds. Both these grant programs will open for applications soon and now is a great time to reflect on your practices and brainstorm proposals with your local teams.
-
Reimagine Education Project (REP). This project is a collaborative effort within OSPI to fund a variety of pilots led by educators, teams of educators, or schools/programs. ALE schools/programs would be eligible for funding to investigate and test instructional or social emotional learning best practices in their settings. The goal of this project is to gather data on what works in ALE settings to inform formal best practices.
-
ALE & Unfinished Learning. This grant program is intended to address unfinished learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic and accelerate learning recovery through academic and social-emotional screening, and individualizing learning plans via ALE. The goal of this project is to provide the funding necessary to supplement ALE apportionment, based on costs identified by applicants, to achieve desired outcomes directly related to accelerating learning recovery.
More information including grant applications, instructions, and guidance will be coming soon. Contact ALDInfo@k12.wa.us with any questions.

How are you implementing the new truancy in ALE rules outlined in WAC 392-550-040? We are looking for programs interested in sharing an overview of their practices. Options for sharing practices include:
- An text-based overview of your practices written by your program (1-2 paragraphs)
- An audio and/or video recording of you sharing your practices (5-10 minutes)
- Volunteers to present via a webinar on your practices (15-20 minute presentation)
Reach out to Anissa Sharratt if you are interested in any of these options for additional information.
For more information on truancy in ALE, please review WAC 392-550-040 and the Guide to Offering ALE sections on truancy (beginning on page 37).
September Monthly Progress Reviews
A few things to remember for September monthly progress evaluations, required per WAC 392-550-025(3):
-
Due on or before the 5th school day of October (best practice is before the end of September).
- Results of the evaluation include communication via direct interactive contact with the student.
- Must address the student's progress toward the goals in the written student learning plan (WSLP). This means progress toward content & standards in the courses listed in the WSLP. (May include grades.)
- Must be completed and dated by a named certificated teacher (support staff allowed if student has 100% online courses) on or before the due date. The best practice is a signature - either by hand or digitally.
- Any required intervention plan (success plan) due to unsatisfactory progress must include student participation and be approved and dated by the certificated teacher within 5 school days of the monthly progress review.
