WA Youth Sexual Health (WYSH) survey is open for youth ages 13 to 20, to collect anonymous information about youth experiences with sexual health education and accessing sexual health services. Results will inform work being done by OSPI, WA Dept. of Health and youth serving agencies. Contact Andrea.Wessel@k12.wa.us for a link to the survey and required assent forms. Survey available in multiple languages and youth participants will be entered in an anonymous drawing for a gift card.
2021 Healthy Youth Survey will be administered Oct. 11-29. Schools may register to participate until Sept. 27.
All WA schools must begin providing free menstrual hygiene products to students in grades 3-12 by the beginning of the 2022-23 school year (HB 1273, passed by the WA Legislature in 2021).
Beginning in the 2021-22 school year, all public schools in Washington State must begin providing comprehensive sexual health education to all students in grades 6-12; by the 2022-23 school year all public schools must begin providing comprehensive sexual health education to students in grades 4-5 and social emotional learning (SEL) to students in grades K-3 (RCW 28A.300.475). Youth-Centered Environmental Shift Program (YES!) is recruiting WA middle schools to pilot an innovative sexual violence prevention program starting in Fall 2021. Contact Andrea.Wessel@k12.wa.us for more information.
WA PREP for Healthy Youth, a federally funded teen pregnancy prevention program managed by the WA Dept. of Health and Cardea Services, is providing assistance to support school districts in WA with implementation of new reqiurements for comprehensive sexual health education. Assistance is available for curriculum selection, working with school boards, educating parents/caregivers and community, providing curriculum walk-throughs, core skills training for teachers, and more. FLASH online licenses - OSPI has a limited number of first-time, one-year licenses available for middle and high school FLASH, for districts outside of King Co. For more information, contact Taylor.Allen@k12.wa.us.
OSPI provides professional development to support the provision of sexual health education that is consistent with WA State Laws (RCW 28A.300.475 and AIDS Omnibus Act).
