As we approach a new year, we want to take a moment to thank each and every member of our ALE community for your hard work and dedication this year.
Your commitment to providing high quality learning experiences while also supporting non-academic needs and finding new ways to connect with students inspires us and makes us proud to support such a great professional community of educators.
We look forward to seeing you in 2021!
OSPI filed an emergency rule to delay the implementation date of WAC 392-550-040 regarding truancy in ALE until March 1, 2021. This emergency rule aligns policies around truancy in remote learning settings between ALE and non-ALE settings.

Monthly Progress reviews - reminders from WAC 392-550-025
Each student's educational progress must be evaluated each calendar month and this evaluation is based on the learning goals and performance objectives defined in the written student learning plan.
Monthly Progress Reviews (MPRs):
- Must be completed by the 5th school day of the next month (per date on signature - may be digitally signed).
- For example, December reviews may be competed anytime between December 1 and January 8.
- For students with only online courses, may be developed by a support staff member based on progress based on the progress grades in the online course(s).
- For students with any or all site-based or remote courses, must be developed and approved by a certificated teacher.
If Satisfactory progress:
- Communicate results to the student/parent
- Posted grades may be considered as evidence of progress, but are not a substitute for the MPR or its communication.
If Unsatisfactory progress:
- Requires direct personal contact (2-way with student);
- Requires intervention plan within 5 days of MPR.
