Grants Available for Community-Based Organizations to Support Student Learning

The competitive grant funds will be available for community-based organizations to provide expanded learning and integrated student supports to address student and family needs.

OLYMPIA—September 18, 2020—The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) will offer competitive grant opportunities to community-based organizations (CBOs) to support student learning during the 2020–21 school year.

The CBO grants will be focused on supporting students and their families to engage in school-based learning, regardless of their school district’s reopening model. Grant funds can be used to provide expanded learning opportunities to support and complement the teaching and learning in a class as well as integrated student supports to provide wraparound services for identified student and family needs. These grants can also be used to strengthen language and disability access for students and their families.

Eligible organizations for grant funding include smaller, local CBOs who serve specific local needs and populations, as] well as larger statewide CBOs who provide direct services to students or regional network supports.

OSPI received federal Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief funds (ESSER funds) through the CARES Act and allocated over $8 million for this opportunity.

Priority scoring will be provided to CBOs that emphasize activities to address the unique needs of students in student groups that have historically been the furthest from educational justice.

In addition, OSPI requires that CBOs demonstrate how their work is in partnership with their local school district.
