SBE Emergency Waiver Program
The purpose of the State Board of Education (SBE) emergency waiver program is to grant Local Education Agencies flexibility so that students in the graduating Class of 2020 or earlier who were on track to graduate before the declaration of emergency of February 29, 2020, the proclamation of statewide school closures on March 13, 2020, and any subsequent amendments to these proclamations, are not negatively impacted by measures taken by the Local Education Agency in response to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). This waiver authority expires July 31, 2020.
The State Board of Education (SBE) met on April 21, 2020, to review the first round of applications from local education agencies (LEAs) for the Emergency Waiver program. They will meet again May 20-21 to review the second round of waiver applications.
