II. Chinese Dual Language Immersion Study Abroad
Get out of the classroom and step into the culture! Applicants must be 16-18 years of age and scored well on the AP Chinese exam, and have Chinese Dual Language Immersion or Immersion experience in a K-12 setting (elementary, middle, and/or high school). Application Deadline: February 14, 2020.

Note: Registrars should upload World Language Competency Credit and Seal of Biliteracy award data in a timely manner. Competency Credit should be posted to the transcript within a month after students earn it. Most students qualify for Competency Credit and the Seal through on-site district world language competency testing. However, many students qualify through AP and IB exam scores. See the OSPI Seal of Biliteracy webpage for detailed information.

Call for Proposals
Deadline to Submit is January 10
The ACTFL Call for Proposals is open for the 2020 Annual Convention to address the needs of today’s learners and educators by focusing on innovative programs, emerging trends and research-informed practices. Language educators are encouraged to submit a proposal for consideration.

Details can be found in the Submission Guidelines and Presenter Responsibilities and the tutorial video before proceeding to complete your online submission. You may only submit one proposal as a lead presenter and be listed on only one as a co-presenter. The deadline to submit a proposal is Friday, January 10, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time. Late submissions will not be considered.

The ACTFL Annual Convention will be Friday, November 20 through Sunday, November 22, 2020 (Pre-Convention Workshops scheduled on Thursday, November 19) at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, San Antonio, TX. The ACTFL Convention features over 800 educational sessions covering a wide spectrum of the language profession. The ACTFL Convention is a national event bringing together over 7,000 attendees from all languages, levels and assignments within the profession.

Seattle Public Schools’ OER Grant has produced Chinese translations of The State We're In for use in Middle School Mandarin Dual Language Immersion Programs. "The State We’re In: Washington" is an online and printed educational publication. Part of a larger Civic Education Project, this instructional resource establishes the link between public participation and effective government. Colorful graphs, historical photos and thought-provoking illustrations help to describe the basics of government, and the connection between a governing authority and culture and economy. Young readers and adults alike will gain a robust sense of past and present tribal governance and their relationship to state and local government in Washington.
