ELP Assessment Update November 13, 2019

ELPA21 Workshops

OSPI has cancelled the ELPA21 workshops that were scheduled for December 3, 4, and 5. Any updates on the status of these or other professional development opportunities will be announced via the ELP Assessment Updates list serve. We apologize for any inconvenience the cancellations have caused.

ELP Assessment Survey

Superintendent Reykdal, in partnership with the OSPI Bilingual Education Advisory Committee, has requested a survey be conducted to get feedback regarding the state’s system of standards and accompanying assessments that support English learners (ELs).

We invite those who directly administer the English Language Proficiency Assessment (ELPA21) and use it for district level decisions/compliance/reporting on ELs to complete the ELPA21 Survey. The window to provide your input is November 6 – November 25, 2019. Under state and federal laws, schools and districts are required to conduct initial screening of potential ELs to determine needs for bilingual/dual education and alternative English-only language development instruction. Additionally, we are accountable for providing information about the annual progress of the state’s English learners. Your individual feedback is important, and we encourage you to respond based on your individual experiences and needs. This will ultimately contribute to the Superintendent’s overall decision-making since the standards and assessments that measure student growth form the foundation of an equitable education for our English learners.

Thank you for your time in sharing your thoughts!
