Annual Report Data Use

Thank you to everyone for submitting your Annual Reports!

Feedback Wanted!

In general, we’ve heard that submission was easier this year, however, if you have specific feedback to improve the process, please email Laurie Shannon at laurie.shannon@k12.wa.us, or Lisa Ireland at lisa.ireland@k12.wa.us.

Download Your Data

This year, you should be able to download your data to analyze your program offerings. Go to the EDS reporting system, under Youth Reengagement, select your school, click on Student List.

You will find a list of your students, for whom you can check individual details, or download all student data by clicking on the link, “Download Students”, within the line that states, “To download a file template prepopulated with the students below, click here: Download Students."

(The high school credits earned data is not currently showing up on the spreadsheet. It is available per student by clicking "View".)

Note:  If you are unfamiliar with sorting a spreadsheet, click on the gray triangle in the top left corner of the data (highlighted in this image), go to “Data” (highlighted) and click “Sort”, then make sure the box next to “My data has headers” is checked. Choose your column for sorting (last name, entry date, number of SBE graduation requirements, credits earned, etc.), adding columns and expanding widths for better detail (e.g., credits earned, then by last name). Or, check with your local district technical data specialist for assistance. Another resource for examining data is your ESD: they also have data specialists.

Seeking Trends

When you review the student data for your program,

  • What trends do you notice?
  • What questions do you have?
  • What other data do you wish you knew?
  • With whom are you sharing this data?
  • How is this data informing your school improvement?

This is for your program's development, but we would be glad to hear about your observations and wonderings, too!

How do we use this data at OSPI?

Data from these reports help us verify and support programs in a variety of ways:

  • Verify types of program outcomes as compared to approvals
  • Study frequency of types of IAPs
  • Provide support for programs with few IAPs or credits
  • Celebrate programs that have multiple IAP paths and credits - and graduates!

Now that we have three years of student level data, we can begin the work of establishing some norms and state averages for program types and student outcomes. It is important that we have data to help tell the story of the great work happening in our state around youth reengagement and the potential of Opportunity Youth. Further, we also use this data to inform our continued policy work on multiple pathways to graduation. Thank you!
