ELP Assessment Update May 15, 2018
ELPA21 2018-19 Screener Training Opportunities
The ELPA21 Screener will be
updating for the 2018-19 school year. The new screener has a number of
improvements that will make for a better testing experience and quicker scoring
turnaround for most students. To facilitate a smooth transition, OSPI is providing
multiple opportunities for trainers to attend a face-to-face training to learn
about key changes, rubrics, and other important information. If you are
interested in attending, please register at the link below. This training will
last approximately 3 hours and is intended for those who plan to facilitate
local trainings to prepare test administrators for screening in August. Please register early to ensure your space in the training.
Training Schedule:
- June 7th, 8:00-11:00 a.m. - Vancouver
- June 8th, 8:00-11:00 a.m .- Edmonds
- June 8th, 1:00-4:00 p.m. - Kent
- June 12th, 12:00-3:00 p.m. - Wenatchee
- June 13th, 8:00-11:00 a.m. - Pasco
The training will include slides,
opportunities to practice “on-the-fly” scoring, guidance on important changes
from last year, and resource information.
There will also be online
opportunities for this training. The online versions of the TA training will
likely be available in early June on the OSPI website under the ELPA21 links.

We have completed another season of

improve in the future. We are seeking feedback from school and district
personnel regarding ELAP21 experiences. Please complete the survey by June 4. Thank
you for helping us improve.

This year, Washington adopted a new assessment to measure the
language proficiency of ELs with significant cognitive disabilities. This
assessment does not include cut scores for kindergarten ELs, so WA State will
be establishing cut scores for kindergarten WIDA Alternate ACCESS testers this
summer. If you are interested in participating in a work group to establish cut
scores at the Kindergarten level for WIDA Alternate ACCESS, please apply at the
link below. This work will take place over two days in July. We will be seeking
diverse representation with a preference for those who have experience with
this population of students and the WIDA Alternate ACCESS assessment.
Please apply by May 24.
