September 2017

You have likely received the update introducing you to those of us at OSPI who are here to support your program.

In the 2014 Legislative Session, ESSB 6002 established the Alternative Learning Experience and Reengagement Compliance Manager role. My priority is to support your program and help you prepare for an audit by the State Auditor’s Office (SAO), by providing education and guidance as you document your students’ learning. I will be working with Laurie Shannon, Reengagement Program Supervisor, who oversees the enactment of Dropout Reengagement. We will be leading workshops and webinars to best support your program, and I will be conducting site-based and desk reviews as a pre-audit advisory service.

Audits conducted by SAO on reengagement programs will begin this year and will expand next year. It is important that your practices are in alignment with the state rules.

If you are a new reengagement program, our role is to help provide the resources you need as you start this new endeavor.

I am available by phone for any questions you may have about Comprehensive Program Reviews, Guided Self Studies, Compliance, or Agency Program Audits. Please contact me by email, liz.quayle@k12.wa.us; or by phone, 360-725-6106.

I look forward to collaborating with programs such as yours to improve communication and support the education that you are providing to your students.

All the best for your new school year!

Sincerely,

 Liz Quayle
