George Aszklar | WA State CTE Director's Message
By
the time you receive this newsletter, it will be Day 8 of the 2016 First
Special Session. We are hopefully optimistic that something will happen
favorably for CTE.
We
will need to continue our partnerships and work together to serve CTE students.
Thank you for all of your efforts, it does make a difference in the lives of
our students!
National Policy Seminar
I was able to participate with a delegation from Washington
to join with over 400 CTE professionals and colleagues at the
ACTE National Policy Seminar from February 29 through March 2 in
Arlington, Virginia.
While attending the event, Sly Boskovich, Kaci Watkins, Lew
Keliher, Shani Whatkins, Owen Watkins, Gene Wachtel, Gary Parkert, Simoné
Selis, Adam Corum, Tim Knue and I were able to meet with Washington State
Representatives Beutler, Rodgers, Reichert, Heck, Kilmer, Newhouse, and United
States Senator
Maria Cantwell. The CTE delegation discussed the
importance of Perkins Re-authorization to CTE and our students in helping them
prepare for Careers and College. All of our Representatives and Senator Cantwell
were very supportive of CTE and pledged to support the Re-authorization of
Perkins. Washington State delegation remains hopeful that the Bipartisan Budget
Act of 2015 continues to move the re-authorization forward leading to the Final
Re-authorization of Perkins. OSPI and WA-ACTE will continue to push for a
greater federal investment in Perkins.
Please feel free to contact me at 360-725-6243 or email me at george.aszklar@k12.wa.us.
Thank you!

CTE Initial and CTE Probationary Update
The
developer for the ESD/E-Cert system is done testing the new CTE Initial and
CTE Probationary on-line applications. You may now start using the on-line
district request for the CTE Probationary.
CTE
Probationary will need to be completed just like the CTE Conditional. District
request FIRST, then the applicant applies for their district request. This is
also the way you will request a RENEWAL of the CTE Probationary.
CTE
Initial has all the forms attached to the application on-line. Be sure to explain
to the applicant that they need to download the forms and submit them
either electronically in the system under their account or by mailing the
forms/documents to the Certification office.
