Throughout the month of April, CAPAA joined millions around the globe in celebrating a variety of traditional and cultural holidays, many of which honored the New Year.
Governor Inslee issued a proclamation honoring the many New Years that are celebrated throughout South and Southeast Asia.

ANHPI Heritage Month | Sunday, May 1st from 12pm-5pm
The celebrations are back in-person! There will be cultural performances, local vendors, and much more. CAPAA will have it's own booth, make sure to come say hi!
Walk for Rice | Saturday, June 18th 9am-12pm
Walk for Rice brings people together as a community to raise funds for the ACRS Food Bank and awareness about food insecurity in Asian, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (ANHPI) communities. Since the first walk in 1990, Walk for Rice has raised over one million dollars to feed families and individuals experiencing hunger.
Rescheduled: WSDOT Community Workforce Agreement & Priority Hire Listening Session
Washington State Department of Transportation is rescheduling the Community Workforce Agreement & Priority Hire Listening Session from April 28th to Mid-May. WSDDOT is rescheduling the meeting to ensure they have adequate time to inform interested stakeholders and community-based organizations. They will notify the public with more information on the date/time of the meeting,

Racism is a Public Health Crisis Wednesday, May 5th, 2022 | 4:00-5:30pm
The Washington State Public Health Association will present on their Racism is a PH Crisis Resolution. The Resolution includes an action plan that contains strategies + actions including advocacy, education, allyship, and accountability. The session will provide an opportunity to discuss and share your vision, perspective, insights and feedback (facilitated in small groups).

Capital Equity Review
The Washington State Department of Commerce has a funding program for affordable housing and community infrastructure projects. Their current phase of the Equity Review and is focused on 3 of our Capital Programs: The Housing Trust Fund, Building Community Fund, and Clean Energy Transportation Electrification Systems.
These conversations will focus on ways to open access to future program funding through Commerce.

CAPAA was established in 1974 to promote the wellbeing of Asian Pacific Americans (APAs) in Washington State. It advises the Governor, state agencies, and the legislature on changes to laws, policies, programs and services impacting APA’s. It has a board of 12 gubernatorial appointees representing the geographic and cultural diversity of Washington State.
