Sunrise Review

The message below is from HSQA regarding a Sunrise Review.

The Washington State Legislature has requested the Department of Health (department) consider a Sunrise Review application under chapter 18.120 RCW on a proposal to change the scope of practice for psychologists regarding prescriptive authority.  It has asked for our assessment of whether the proposal meets the sunrise criteria for expanding a health profession’s scope of practice.

Please visit our sunrise web page to find:

  • Request from the legislature,
  • Proposed bill, House Bill 2967 (2020 session),
  • Applicant report explaining how the applicant group (Washington State Psychological Association) believes the proposal meets the sunrise criteria, and
  • Information on the process we are using to conduct this review, as well as the criteria the department must consider in making recommendations on this proposal.

The department is requesting your comments on the proposal to help draft our recommendations to the legislature.  Please email your comments to sunrise@doh.wa.gov by midnight, June 17, 2020.  Please use this same email address if you have questions about this review or want to be added to our distribution list to receive updates during the process.  We will provide another opportunity for comments after we have a draft report ready.
