MLK Day of Service Produces New Community Garden

 Community Garden MLK Day

On Monday, January 21, 2013, twenty United Way Day of Service volunteers age 18 and younger worked side-by-side with seventeen Lynnwood Senior Center volunteers building raised beds for an for an community garden. Participants aged 4 to 90 years old constructed thirty garden boxes intended to offer opportunities for intergenerational pairs of gardeners to learn, grow food and work together.

The long-term goal of this community garden located adjacent to the Lynnwood Senior Center is to increase wellness, foster intergenerational interaction, increase access to fresh produce, and provide a much needed service to the community.

Special thanks are offered to Dunn Lumber, United Way of Snohomish County, Catholic Community Services of Snohomish County / RSVP, and City of Lynnwood Parks and Public Works Departments for the hard work and willingness to make this project a reality.
